Our friends at Bite Back 2030 are asking Boris Johnson to deliver on the policies in his obesity strategy, announced last July.
Bite Back 2030 works to lobby businesses and government to act on young people’s right to health. Its Youth Board comprises 16 teenage activists, who, backed by Jamie Oliver, are asking the Prime Minister to focus on:
- healthier advertising online and on TV;
- clear nutrition labels;
- more price promotions on healthier food;
- and enforcing the school food standards.
We fully support these young people’s work, as we know that children in more deprived areas are twice as likely to be obese as those in less deprived areas, and that junk food adverts on platforms like Instagram target children from low-income backgrounds. We also know that over 60% of secondary schools are not complying with the school food standards.
Number 10 must act now to prevent further widening health inequalities. To show your support please add your name to this letter to the Prime Minister.
