Our mission is to teach children about food and to improve children’s access to healthy, sustainable food during their time at school.
We provide fully-funded food education programmes to schools. Our experience delivering these programmes informs and strengthens our campaigns, bringing the voices of children, parents and teachers to government policy.

School Food Matters was founded in 2007 by parent Stephanie Slater, inspired by environmentalist Zac Goldsmith, then the parliamentary candidate for Richmond Park.
This is where you'll find opportunities to work with us and we're always delighted to hear from enthusiastic volunteers!
In 2010 we made a commitment to move the charity from 100% grant dependency. Our two areas of work remain campaigning and food education but we have now moved to a more financially robust model with income coming from four sources.
In June 2017, we celebrated our 10th Birthday with a wonderful picnic for 500 children in the magical College Garden at Westminster Abbey.
