The Holiday Food and Fun programme provides fun activities and hot, healthy meals to children during school holidays.
Since the programme started in 2018, we have run four Holiday Food and Fun clubs across two primary schools in Ealing (over the Easter and summer holidays). These were developed and delivered in partnership with Belazu Ingredient Company, which provided funding and a team of enthusiastic volunteers.
We're now joined by the folk at Abel & Cole who not only supported a holiday programme at a primary school in Wandsworth, but also donated delicious fresh fruit for the children to enjoy every morning!
Activities included arts, crafts, sports and games. The students received visits from our gardener who taught them how to pot seeds and inspired the children to think about where food comes from. We also offered cooking sessions run by chefs who introduced the children to lots of new foods and culinary skills.
Staff from Belazu and Abel & Cole were given the opportunity to volunteer at the school and see first-hand how much the programme helps the children and their families.
Since 2018, School Food Matters (SFM) has been running holiday food and fun programmes, thanks to the support of our partners Belazu and Abel & Cole.
Parents have been very positive about the programme, which provides their children with the opportunity to run around and socialise as well as access to healthy food:
“The children stay healthy and active, and it gets them off their phones.”
“They can socialise and have a relaxing atmosphere in school.”
“It gives them something to do during the summer and the chance to make new friends.”
“I cannot put into words how grateful we are to have had the opportunity to be invited for a week of endless fun and positivity! The children have had a fab time and been spoilt rotten with second helpings at lunchtimes!”
This is part of our Food provision work.
We want every child to have access to nutritious food so that they are well-nourished and ready to learn. That’s why we work with school caterers, headteachers and families to get the best possible food service across the whole school day.
