In 2012, School Food Matters was proud to be invited to be part of the Expert Panel charged by the DfE to come up with the School Food Plan.

Led by Henry Dimbleby and John Vincent, the School Food Plan was published in July 2013 with the support of then Education Secretary, Michael Gove.

It contains a series of actions, each of which is the responsibility of a named person or organisation, to transform what children eat at school and how they learn about food. Watch the film to find out more.

On 1 April 2016, the School Food Plan office officially closed and the baton was passed to the School Food Plan Alliance. The Alliance is made up of members of the original Expert Panel and representatives of organisations from the wider world of school food. Our Founder/CEO, Stephanie Slater, co-chairs the Alliance with Food for Life's co-founder, Jeanette Orrey.

Below you'll find a selection of key resources and practical tools for schools produced by the School Food Plan team on behalf of the Department for Education. These resources and tools contain public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0 (as the same may be updated and/or amended from time to time).

We believe that school food should be a consistent and non-partisan priority for government. We use our real-world experience of working in schools to strengthen our campaigns on children’s health, access to nutritious school meals and food education.
