Know Your Onions

Know your Onions is designed to give secondary school students an opportunity to try cooking and growing to stimulate an interest in food and a love of the natural world.

Three schools in Camden and three schools in Enfield were visited by an expert horticulturalist who helped them to develop their food growing spaces and, with the help of a professional chef, gave them top tips on how to cook what they harvest. At the end September, students harvested and sold their produce at their local street markets, raising a commendable £229 to invest back into their food education activities.

Thank you to Camden Council and Old Enfield Charitable Trust for helping to fund the programme this year.

We are delighted to announce that this project will run in five London boroughs for 2022 (Camden, Enfield, Walthamstow, Croydon and Hackney). Please get in touch with Dela if you would like more information.

“I’d say I’m actually quite good at selling stuff”

“The garden has benefitted all the children, not just those doing Know your Onions.  All the students can engage with it in different ways, and enjoy the sensory aspect of it through taste, touch and smell. They also get to experience food in a new way by seeing where it comes from, picking it and tasting it.”
