In 2018, we launched a new programme for secondary schools focusing on food waste, enterprise and innovation within the STEM curriculum. And we've created a lovely video to show you what it's all about.
Continuing our award-winning partnership with Whole Kids Foundation, Compost Matters looks at waste and how schools can make wonderful compost with the food waste produced by their school.
Six schools enjoyed an educational visit to a farm specialising in composting followed by a workshop at school with a composting expert and soil scientist. We then challenged DT students to design and build a composter to be used in the school grounds to support the school's food growing.
Students were given the opportunity to use their technology and engineering knowledge to design and build the structure and, once the composter was up and running, they explored the chemical and biological processes in their science lessons.
