Tell your MP: Every child deserves a Healthy Start!
Thousands of women and children are currently missing out on vital support to buy healthy food.
27 charities and health groups have written an open letter to Health Secretary Matthew Hancock MP asking him to take action. It was estimated in 2018 that £28.6m worth of Healthy Start Vouchers was not used by families in England and Wales.
Some of the products people missed out on were:
- 35 million pints of milk
- 35 million apples
- 6.9 million kg of carrots
- 4.5 million kg of peas.
Children’s Food Campaign wants people in England to start asking their local MPs to support #HealthyStart4all. The Healthy Start vouchers are currently helping children and young pregnant women on low incomes to buy £3.10 worth of infant formula, milk, vegetables and fruit every week. The number of people using these vouchers has decreased in the last five years as many are unaware of them. It is therefore important that our MPs invest in promotion of these vouchers and increase the quantity produced each year.
