Launch of Ofsted's new inspection framework
Ofsted has published its draft inspection framework and handbooks but where are the words 'healthy eating'? Also missing is reference to the healthy rating scheme for schools.
The framework and handbooks are out for consultation so take a look here. We'll be getting our highlighter pens at the ready to scrutinise and submit a response but a quick word search failed to find any reference to the government's proposed healthy rating scheme for schools nor could we find the words "school food", "healthy eating" or "breakfast". Sadly the one reference to healthy eating from the 2015 framework seems to have vanished.
At SFM we firmly believe in the adage 'what gets measured gets done' so we're supporting the government's proposal to introduce a healthy rating scheme for schools. With our friends at Jamie Oliver, Children's Food Campaign and Food for Life we have created a five minute survey so that we can hear from parents, teachers and governors.
Five minutes, five questions and you can help us send a message to Department for Education and Ofsted that a healthy rating scheme is a good idea and it's time to crack on!
In other news ...
We've just submitted our response to Ofsted's draft inspection framework calling for a renewed focus on healthy eating and food education.
Young Food Ambassadors from across the country joined Dame Emma Thompson at Westminster to call for urgent political action on child food insecurity.
The words “healthy eating” have been removed from the framework and we can find no reference to "school food", "food education" or the government’s proposed Healthy Schools Rating Scheme.
