Guidance on Defra's Emergency Assistance Grant

13 July 2020

Defra has published guidance for Local Authorities on the Emergency Assistance Grant.

This is particularly important for families who missed out on registering for free school meals prior to the end of the summer term. The Covid Summer Food Fund does not allow for families who become eligible for free school meals during the holidays meaning that they will not be able to access vouchers from Edenred.  We hope that local authorities will understand this challenge and support families to feed their families well during the holidays.

The £63m fund will be allocated according to the population of each local authority, weighted by a function of the English Index of Multiple Deprivation, as a proxy for additional need. Families will need to apply to the fund via their local authority. You can read the guidance here.
