Common sense prevails!
A campaign victory. The Government has announced it will continue to fund free school meals over the summer holidays.
The Government has announced that children eligible for benefits-related free school meals, will continue to receive support over the summer holidays. Full details are still to be announced, but we know:
The Government will establish a ‘Covid Summer Food Fund’ to provide food vouchers over the six week holiday period.
The Scheme will cost around £120m
This is in addition to the £63m already announced to help councils provide support for low-income families over the summer
This is a great outcome and a victory for collaborative campaigning. Three cheers for the government for listening to the clear community views on this issue and a special mention for one footballer who spoke so eloquently about his own experience of food insecurity!
