Consultation announced on extending HFSS restrictions to online advertising

12 November 2020
The government has published a new consultation on introducing a total online advertising restriction for products high in fat, sugar and salt (HFSS).

This follows on from the 2019 consultation on whether to extend advertising restrictions on broadcast TV and online media, and on watershed restrictions. This new consultation goes further, looking at how a total HFSS advertising restriction could be implemented online.

It will focus on:

  • what types of advertising should be restricted?

  • who should be liable for compliance?

  • What is the enforcement of the restrictions?

The consultation will run for six weeks - closing 11.59pm 22nd December. We’ll be working with colleagues at Children’s Food Campaign to help to bring the voices of parents and teachers to policy-makers.
