In her first big campaign after taking the role, Children’s Commissioner Dame Rachel de Souza today launches The Big Ask. The survey is open until 19 May and asks children in England for their thoughts on improving their experiences post-Covid.
De Souza will use the results to inform a review – called the Childhood Commission – aimed at resolving ‘generational problems that have held back too many children for decades’. Children will be asked about barriers they face, and their happiness in various areas of their lives. Their answers will then be central to Dame Rachel’s ‘Beveridge-style blueprint for government’, reminiscent of the post-World War Two Beveridge report on the rebuilding of Britain, which led to the creation of the NHS.
There is a variety of resources for teachers and others who work with children to support them in implementing the survey.
Children’s champion Marcus Rashford is supporting the survey and tells children it is ‘a brilliant way for you to express yourselves.’ You can watch the launch video, featuring Rashford, here.
