Bristol is to become the first council outside of London to restrict the marketing of unhealthy food and drink.
This week Bristol City Council has approved its Advertising and Sponsorship policy. The policy restricts advertising by the Council or by others on council-owned assets that promotes products high in fat, sugar and/or salt (HFSS).
The ban builds on work by the Mayor of London, who, with support from our friends Sustain, introduced restrictions on advertising HFSS products on transport in 2019. Since then, three London boroughs have introduced healthy food advertising policies and Bristol becomes the fourth council and first outside of London to do so.
